Not all lost friction was formative

An editorial counter-claim: much of the labor a tool absorbs taught nobody anything, and mourning it romanticizes cost.

Much of what a tool now absorbs was drudgery that formed no one: retyping, hunting for a reference, waiting on a queue. Treating every removed friction as lost judgment romanticizes work that was merely expensive, and makes the argument unfalsifiable.
