Mediation refers to the process by which an experience, relationship, or piece of information reaches a person through an intervening medium rather than directly.
Interpretation
This project is interested in what technological mediation characteristically hides or alters relative to unmediated experience, without assuming mediation is inherently a loss.
Caution
All experience is mediated to some degree — by language, by perception itself — so "mediation" here refers specifically to additional, optional technological layers, not a claim about unmediated experience being generally available.
